Do you have a need for speed, a head for heights or love hanging upside down? Theme parks in the United Kingdom are home to some of the biggest and best rides in Europe. Get hurtled through the air, soaked to the skin and taken to the brink of oblivion. Rent a caravan at one of the many caravan parks throughout the UK and enjoy a fantastic, family, fun-filled holiday with an exciting day out at one of the following Theme Parks.
Drayton Manor – Tamworth, Staffordshire
An award winning park comprised of roller coasters, rides, a zoo and the famous Thomas Land, based on the popular character Thomas the Tank Engine. It’s home to some of the wettest and scariest rides for adults and older children including Shockwave and Stormforce 10.
Drayton Manor Zoo has many exciting animals such as big cats, monkeys, eagles, owls and parrots, together with an exotic creature reserve.
Alton Towers – Staffordshire
First opened in 1860 when it featured flower displays and garden shows, Alton Towers has since developed into a huge resort park with rollercoasters, a water park and hotels. Some of the hair-raising rides include Oblivion, Nemesis and the newer ride, Thirteen. It is also home to the newly opened CBeebies Land, guaranteed to entertain the younger family members.
Blackpool Pleasure Beach
Known to be the UK’s most ride intensive theme park, based right on the sea-front at Blackpool, the rides include a roller coaster, Thrill-o-matic and a new Wallace and Gromit attraction. As well as many rides for the thrill seekers, there are also displays of the Hot Ice show each day.
The Pleasure beach is a home to Nickelodean Land where you will find all your favourite characters, including Sponge Bob Square Pants.
Legoland – Windsor, Berkshire
Opened in 1996 on the site of the former Windsor Safari park location, this theme park is a must for any Lego fans. It now houses over 55 rides and attractions. Ride the rapids with a Viking fleet, escape the dragons as you fly through the tree-tops and join the divers on an amazing underwater adventure on the Atlantis submarine.
Thorpe Park – Chertsey, Surrey
A resort theme park with rides such as Colossus, Stealth and Rush, all guaranteed to get the heart pumping for a white knuckle ride. With a total of five roller-coasters and a drop-ride named Detonator Bombs Away, plenty of activities for a fun filled afternoon. For the younger children, visit the Angry Birds 4D movie experience and be part of the action as the rumbling chairs take you on an interactive adventure.
Flambards Experience – Helston, Cornwall
Formerly the Cornwall Aircraft Park, it now operates more than 20 rides, attractions and indoor exhibitions. Wander through the cobbled streets of the Victorian re-created village, or experience war time life in the Britain in the Blitz featured area.
With the cost of ticket prices for the major theme parks being quite expensive for a family outing, look out for offers on 2 tickets for the price of 1; or exchange your supermarket loyalty points for admission. Maybe if there are several people visiting try to get a group discount. Check out the websites of the individual parks, as some offer a large discount if you book 2 weeks beforehand.
With the school summer holidays now upon us, promise the kids a fun-filled time at one of the many caravan parks around the UK, most of which are close to theme parks.
Scream if you want to go faster!
