If you rent a caravan in Suffolk this weekend, near Woodbridge, there is so much food, drink fun and entertainment you will need a week to recover if you manage to participate in all of it.
An annual event now in its fourth year, held in Woodbridge, Suffolk, is a popular festival of food and shellfish taking place from 8th – 11th October 2015. With an exciting programme of events, over the four days, with Thursday and Friday seeing the arrival of a pop-up restaurant at Woodbridge Tide Mill, where you will be served a local shellfish menu.
On Saturday, 10th October, pay a visit to Woodbridge’s “What’s Tasty” local produce market at Market Hill. Customers are encouraged to sample and try the local, fresh food on offer. Local chefs provide cooking demonstrations using locally sourced shellfish, whilst local fish mongers sell fresh mussels, oysters and crabs as well as other land-produced items including bread, sweetcorn, vegetables, cake and other delicious items.
The afternoon of Sunday 11th sees a community celebration known locally as “Seafood Sunday”, with live music and great food. Local restaurants offer an amazing range of tasty meat and shellfish dishes cooked in international styles, such as Spanish, Italian, Asian and BBQ. There are kids’ meals, ice cream and cakes available, with bars open for the adults. During the afternoon take your place to view the Oyster Shucking Competition, where local chefs show off their knife skills.
A Safari Supper is being held on Sunday evening in Woodbridge, where the plan is to move from one renowned restaurant to another, having one locally sourced delicious course in each. The Table, The Crown and The Riverside are among the Woodbridge eateries taking part. If you wish to partake, it may be advisable to book a table reservation beforehand.
Suffolk Fringe Festival
Other food and drink themed events taking part in this year’s Suffolk Fringe Festival are also worthy of a visit.
Buy a trail map and follow your nose to taste the 12 bangers on offer manufactured by several producers. Take part in sausage making workshops or see who is crowned the “best sausage maker of the year” in Framlingham.
If you love scones head to the café at the RSPB site, to sample any of 25 different types of scones, raspberry and white chocolate, lemon and ginger or a savoury scone of stilton and ale.
The Brewery Tap Junkaloo
Held at The Brewery Tap, it’s a celebration of Ipswich food and drink with many stalls and entertainment for all the family including a fancy dress and an annual Pickled Egg competition!
