The Isle of Wight is easily accessible from the south coast of England and if you live in London you can take the ferry or hovercraft and be there within two hours. For those living busy lives in the Capital the island is the perfect destination to relax and unwind. Many people rent a caravan in St Helens because of its close proximity to beaches on the south east of the island.
A highly popular caravan site is St Helens Holiday Park where there are plenty of things to do for all the family and especially the children such as:
- Outdoor heated swimming pool (please check opening times and availability)
- Children’s adventure playground
- Playing fields
- Games room
- Laundry facility
- Picnic & barbecue areas
A short distance away from the Holiday Park you will find local pubs and restaurants serving excellent food, and beaches are within walking distance.
Whilst there are many things to do on the park, there are also areas of it that are quiet making it a great place to get away for holiday breaks or long weekends.
If you rent a caravan in St Helens during the summer season, it’s fairly likely the weather will be sunny since the island enjoys more sunshine annually than anywhere else in the UK. There are always lots of events and festivals to enjoy in the summer including:
Cowes Week – July – August
As usual Cowes Week will take place as it does every year but combined with a new experience called “Bike & Sail”. For people who like sailing and riding bicycles this is an event for all the family.
Ryde Carnival – takes place in August and all the main towns on the island join in by hosting similar events. It’s an opportunity to dress up in any costume you like and join the Bestival Carnival Fancy Dress Parade.
Dinosaur Isle – renowned as the Dinosaur Capital of Great Britain, children and adults alike will enjoy the Sandown Dinosaur Isle Museum where thousands of fossils and life sized models of dinosaurs can be found. Some of the dinosaurs are mobile too.
You can also download an interactive phone app for Dinosaur Isle where you can interact and have photos taken with the dinosaurs. For more details click here or if you want to download the app immediately click here
