If you rent a caravan in Bideford, North Devon or surrounding areas, on the 29th August 2015 join Great Torrington Cavaliers and watch one of their famous huge bonfires.  This year they have recreated Trumpton Village in a construction that has taken two years. They have been setting fire to things in the cause of fundraising since 1970 and some of their previous bonfire events have seen  large models of the following, reduced to ashes:

  • The Bismark
  • The Houses of Parliament
  • HMS Victory
  • Torrington Church
  • A Viking Ship

Their events are spectacular, usually themed around historic events and always held to raise money for good causes.  Attracting thousands of visitors these events have also raised thousands of pounds for North Devon Cancer Care and the Devon Air Ambulance among other charitable causes.

For tickets and more information click on The Great Torrington Cavaliers. Bear in mind that you must buy a ticket before 23rd August if you intend to purchase online. However, you can buy tickets at the entrance to the event on the night.

Westward Ho!
People who rent a caravan in Bideford often stay on holiday parks in Westward Ho! In this small coastal village, you can enjoy water sports, fantastic freshly cooked food in the pubs and restaurants, a game of golf at The Royal North Devon Golf Club and walks along the pebble ridged beach.

The Big Sheep
In Bideford, you can visit The Big Sheep where you will see several breeds of sheep being put through their paces.  It is astounding how smart the sheep are, walking out to music and standing on their breed name platforms. You can even have a small gamble on the sheep race.  A great day out for all the family, there is a souvenir shop and a café.

There are plenty of shops and supermarkets in Bideford and all the facilities you would expect from a market town. You can buy fresh fish from the fishing boats on the quay or from the local fish shops and naturally the fish and chip shops sell the best fish because it is freshly caught.

10 miles drive away is Barnstaple which is a bigger town where you will find more supermarkets and a huge range of shops including designer labels…
