If you are considering a relaxing short break why not check out Holiday Caravans in Whitby for Gothic Weekends. It’s right on the coast of the North Yorkshire Moors and whether you are ‘into’ walking or hiking, or just a relaxing stroll it has a great deal to offer. You can find static caravan owners on the Rent My Caravan website and book your accommodation direct.
Whitby is a ‘working’ fishing port, so there’s always activity in and around the harbour, which is accessible from both sides of the shoreline. A novel feature in the harbour area is the swing bridge, which carries traffic from one side of the harbour to the other, and of course, opens periodically for boats and ships to pass through.
From the upper shoreline, there is a panoramic view across the estuary to the magnificent Whitby Abbey which stands proud at the opposite side and is a photographer’s paradise.
The Abbey is accessible from the South side of the shore and is a bit of a climb, but well worth the effort. Its magnificent architecture takes you back to a time gone by, and of course, there’s lots of information available during your visit there.
A Unique Shopping Experience
The shopping experience during your static caravan holiday in Whitby is a complete one-off. The cobbled streets and back streets are a mecca for quirky and unusual shops selling everything from Whitby Jet (Jewellery) and Gothic clothes, to buckets and spades and everything in between. Hold onto your purse/wallet, as it might take a bit of a ‘beating’.
Twice a year there is a ‘gothic weekend’ in Whitby (More on their website here), which has become something of a permanent feature and was spawned by the connection with Whitby to the ‘Dracula’ novels. These events are VERY popular and heavily attended, so it’s ideal for static caravan owners in and around Whitby with so many visitors look for holiday caravans to let. But being there during these weekends, I can guarantee you won’t see anything on the planet that matches this spectacle. It’s truly fabulous.
There are literally thousands of people all dressed up in Gothic, Edwardian, Victorian clothing and other bizarre styles. It’s the only place on the earth where you can stop a random stranger dressed up in costume and ask if you can take a picture of them. They are very happy to pose and be directed by you in how and where to stand for that ‘perfect’ shot. It’s not a single parade of people dressed up, but people just going about their business in a perfectly normal way, fantastically dressed. It’s simply something you just ‘have’ to see and be witness to, even if ‘Goths’ are not your thing with both young and elderly alike participating.
Static caravan owners, if you want to let your holiday caravans in Whitby, register them on the Rent My Caravan portal which attracts thousands of visitors every month.
