Many people who have booked private static caravans for hire to attend the Bristol Balloon Fiesta 2016 will have been disappointed last night.
This popular annual event didn’t get off to a great start when all hot air balloons for the first ascent were grounded due to high winds
Yesterday was not the luckiest day generally when the ‘Moon’ balloon belonging to Luke Jerram, a firm favourite, burst and will have to be repaired in order to participate.
Thousands of people have descended on the area to enjoy this spectacular event so it is to be hoped that weather conditions will improve so that the scheduled ascents planned over the next 3 days can go ahead.
Unusual Hot Air Balloons at Bristol Balloon Fiesta 2016
If you have never been to the festival, it’s really worth making the effort to go. It’s free although there is a car parking charge. Watching 150 colourful, hot air balloons in the skies over Bristol is truly awesome. Part of the attraction of this event is the variety of balloons on display. They come in all shapes and sizes so you can expect to see them shaped like pirate ships, Pokemon characters, dogs and dragons to name a few.
As well as observing with your feet firmly on terra firma if you want to get a better view, why not book a flight on one of the balloons? You can also buy tickets for a helicopter flight but book early!
Check out this video from last year to find out what you can expect.
There is a fairground with rides for all ages and plenty of food and drink on offer. There is also live entertainment at the bandstand performed by local musicians.

Many people bring a picnic or disposable barbecue which is permissible but do make sure you dispose of your rubbish. There are plenty of bins provided so there’s no excuse not to clear up! But don’t place hot barbecue coals in the bins!
